Halitosis treatment

Halitosis is about having a bad oral breath, which can even cause disruptions in our social relationships. It is a widespread problem, as there are studies that determine that 40% of the population suffers from some degree of halitosis.

The causes are diverse, from poor oral hygiene to oral diseases or manifestations of other pathologies.

Causes of halitosis:

The main origin is oral bacterial plaque, which is a buildup of bacteria and food residues in our mouths that originate continuously and are responsible for producing everything from cavities to gingivitis. The accumulation of this plaque in the tongue is the main cause, although other factors such as tobacco, cavities and periodontal diseases.

Halitosis can also come from further into, without its origin the mouth. In these cases it is caused by disorders of the digestive system, respiratory and liver and kidney diseases, although these cases are much smaller than halitosis caused by oral problems.

Treatment for halitosis:

To eliminate bad breath there are a series of colutorios, sprays and gums that contain special ingredients that reduce odor and fight the appearance of bacterial plaque. In many cases bad breath can be eliminated with proper oral hygiene with these products, among which we find:

  • Colutorios: these are products of subsequent use to the paste or tooth gel that provide a protection against bad odor up to 12 hours.
  • Toothpastes and gels: Using a good oral cleaning product together with good brushing is essential to combat plaque and thus reduce halitosis.
  • Interproximal brushes: before brushing your teeth, it is recommended to clean the interdental spaces with interproximal brushes or floss, as this is where plaque most accumulates since a toothbrush often cannot reach these nooks and crannies.
  • Sprays and gums: they are fast acting pocket products that reduce odor while providing oral freshness. These gums are unconventional, but include elements in their formula that reduce and eliminate odor, while normal gum only covers it.
  • In the event that the bad odor is due to as much as to caries and to plaque calculations between the teeth and gingivitis it is advisable to go to the dentist, since in these cases the bad odor is a consequence of a greater problem that needs to be solved as soon as possible so as not to have major problems.
